Social media reactions to Iowa Hawkeyes’ 2023 open spring practice

In fitting Iowa fashion, there were snow flurries to start the day inside and around Kinnick Stadium as the Hawkeyes put a bow tie on the spring season with their annual open practice.

Up front along its offensive line, the Iowa Hawkeyes were without starting left tackle Mason Richman and starting left guard Connor Colby. Saginaw Valley State transfer right tackle Daijon Parker and backup center Michael Myslinski were out, too.

On the defensive line, three starters were nursing injuries. The defensive line trio of Noah Shannon, Logan Lee and Joe Evans all sat out the 11-on-11 portion of the day’s festivities.

Similarly, Michigan transfer and No. 1 quarterback Cade McNamara was limited in the amount he took part in. Still, fans got to see McNamara connect with Diante Vines in the drills portion. His connection with fellow Michigan transfer tight end Erick All was also on display.

Speaking of tight ends, that position group was one of the most impressive on the day. That’s no surprise to Hawkeye fans. It projects as one of the most talented position groups on this Iowa team. Addison Ostrenga and All each had touchdowns and Luke Lachey was lining up all over the field.

With McNamara limited, it meant more of Wisconsin transfer Deacon Hill and of Joe Labas. Hill really impressed. Another good sign was Vines’ performance.

There’s plenty of takeaways we can dissect in the days ahead, but here’s a look back at the day that was through the eyes and the tweets of Hawkeye media members on site.
