I think one of the last things you’d think to reach for in your closet come summer is black denim. But I’d think again! Not everyone loves a white denim (and they can be tough to feel and look your best in honestly) so why are we overlooking all our beloved black denim?
Black denim can be worn in the spring and summer with just a few simple styling tips and tricks. And my number one tip is to try a more washed black denim to make things feel instantly lighter. Here’s how to wear black denim in the summer.
How To Wear Black Denim In The Summer
Start With A Good Pair Of Summer Black Denim
I think each season lends itself to different denim styles. In the fall and winter, I usually want a straight leg, skinny or wide leg trouser. These styles lend themselves to be paired with more boots for the season. But for spring and summer, I’m going to want a wide cropped denim, denim shorts or skirt.
Try Washed Black Denim
While I do think you can still wear your 100% black denim, washed black may be easier. Trying a washed black is a great alternative that feels lighter but still has the cool factor of black denim. It doesn’t feel so dark and is a bit of a lighter wash. Making it the perfect wash for spring and summer.
Add A Sandal
This seems like a no brainer, but truly, a sandal is a game changer here. I would not style a sneaker with your black denim for summer as it will instantly feel a bit heavy. A sandal is light, airy and really feels like spring and summer.
You can do a low sandal like a simple slide or strappy flat. Or you can dress it up and add a block heel or espadrille.
Wear Cotton, Linen Or Eyelet Tops
When you think about finishing your look with a top, always aim for summer fabrics. Think cotton, linen or anything eyelet would be perfect to pair with black summer denim.
Do not add any sort of polyester or silk top to your black denim in the summer. You’ll not only be HOT, but you’ll also look like you don’t belong in the season. And that’s exactly what we want to avoid here.
Finish With Summer Accessories
Leave the leather bags in the closet, and instead grab your summer favorites. Straw, rattan, woven pieces, you name it, these are what we want to style with black denim. I love this straw tote in black. You tend to see a lot of natural colors in this fabric, but black is a nice change.
