How to Use Double Wire Frames for Mokume Gane Style Polymer Clay Earrings / The Beading Gem

Victoria of SunDIYday Jewelry Tutorials is a wonderful polymer clay instructor whose videos I have often shared before. Why? She comes up with new ideas and manages to teach more than one thing in a relatively short video.

This recent tutorial of hers shows you how to use many layers of polymer clay to make mokume gane (wood grain) style earrings. The addition of gold foil gives the pieces a luxurious look. An alternative is to use sprinklings of embossing powder and even gold paint. She uses two different metal tools to great effect. I really like how she used strips of the different patterns she created to mix with her main mokume gane layer.

Another “great idea” part of the tutorial shows how she adds two different sizes of metal frames to create distinctive and one of a kind earrings. You can glue on stud earring posts or attach small bails to hang onto ear hooks. Or just a simple bail to make a pendant out of the completed components.
