Is there a perfect red lipstick?
I believe there are many perfect reds and as a very frequent wearer of rouge lips, I know this to be true. Every now and then I find a matte red that stops me in my tracks, and makes me feel well put together.
On a recent trip, I forgot to pack my best red lips. Good matte red lipstick works for most evening dressing – clean skin, a little tinted moisturiser, and a red lip is about all it takes. Glowing skin can make wearing red lips an easy option. I missed both the drama of my red touch and also the easiness of getting ready and feeling “done”. Shades of flamingo pink and Siena orange just don’t do it in the same way for me.
My idea of the “perfect” red is not too purple, no orange, and with the right amount of blue. I don’t want the matte texture to make me feel like I have “plaster lips” and the staying power must last the night through. A tall order for most products.
One of my most worn reds is Rouge D’Armani Matte in 403?
This red is a true sensation. I’ve worn it for years now and I still believe it’s one of the best.
403 is easy to apply, stays within the lines and has a beautiful matte finish. I apply and blot, apply and blot three times – this way with eating and drinking the colour stays vibrant. I am not fond of the lipstick-ring-around-my-mouth look, it’s like a bad tea stain in the favourite cup.
If a new matte red is on your agenda or you simply want to brighten your day; this is the one. xv
