If there was any doubt as to how kid-friendly Universal Studios’ Texas theme park will be, the name that was revealed Friday certainly solidifies it as a park for kids and family. The theme park coming to Frisco, Texas will be called Universal Kids Resort, Universal Destinations & Experiences revealed during a press conference Friday afternoon.
A news release from the Universal Destinations says that Universal Kids Resort is the company’s “first-ever theme park designed specifically for families with young children,” that brings the “innovative style of storytelling to a new, younger audience.” The resort will also have a 300-room hotel for families, which is what the theme park company announced in January when the resort was first unveiled.
Universal Kids Resort broke ground in November and is expected to bring thousands of jobs, including more than 2,500 new construction jobs.

“We’re designing the resort so kids and families can feel the thrill of being physically immersed in their most beloved stories and characters,” said Molly Murphy, president of Universal Creative, in the news release.
What those beloved stories and characters will be is still unknown, but the new renderings of the theme park has structures that look similar to the Krusty Krab and Spongebob’s Pineapple home under the sea. There’s also areas that looks like Shrek’s swamp and a ride that, with some skilled zooming, appears to have Trolls on it.
Universal Destinations will reveal more details as the theme park progresses. A projected opening date was not provided.
