What happened in Vegas didn’t stay in Vegas when it came to Sara and Jared’s wedding. Originally married in Las Vegas by an Elvis impersonator (I mean, we would be disappointed if they weren’t married by the King in Vegas), they also wanted to celebrate closer to home with their family and friends. Dutcher Photography captured their colorful DIY outdoor wedding – a gorgeous, whimsical celebration everyone could be a part of. We absolutely love the way Sara and Jared broke the mold with their wedding details – from their colorful outfits to the DIY elements. But they didn’t just break tradition at their wedding… just wait until you see how they started off their marriage with a CRASH (in the best way).
This couple’s outfits popped at their colorful DIY outdoor wedding
Take one look at Sara and Jared on their wedding day, and it’s obvious that this couple is anything but boring. Their outfits really reflect the color they bring to each other’s lives. Jared donned blue-green pants, a plaid jacket, and a floral tie – and looked quite dapper, if we do say so ourselves. But all eyes were on Sara as she emerged in her champagne, chiffon-laced dress adorned with an intricately stitched floral design. She seriously looks like a fairy queen!
Of course we love the outfits, but their shoes might just be our favorite part… truly a colorful couple from head to toe.
Ditch the veil for a crown at this colorful DIY outdoor wedding
Every fairy queen needs a crown… and Sara made hers herself for her wedding day. That’s right folks, Sara MADE that gorgeous flower crown on her head. We love the way the crown carried the floral theme from her dress – it really made her outfit bloom! But Sara didn’t stop at just one… she made flower crowns for her whole fairy queendom (i.e., the wedding party), and oh my did they look glamorous.
This colorful DIY outdoor wedding is giving “cozy with a touch of whimsy”
Getting married outside is of course magical, but it takes a special eye to make the outdoors feel as warm and cozy as Sara and Jared did on their wedding day. We love the way they made an aisle that added another pop of color to their day out of simple rugs – adding this idea to our DIY wedding Pinterest board! And the drawings of loved ones who have passed on the mantle made the wedding venue truly feel like home.
And if you weren’t already convinced by their outfits, there’s no denying Sara and Jared’s whimsy as a couple when you see the snack at the reception… cotton candy?! HECK YEAH, we want some! That’s definitely a way to start off a marriage on an extra sweet note.
These two were a dream to work with – they’re quirky and fun and laid back, with lots of DIY touches in their wedding day celebration; all the things we love about our Offbeat couples!

Now for the kintsugi unity ceremony at this colorful DIY outdoor wedding
As fun as this couple is (I mean, they got married by Elvis, for goodness’ sake), their commitment to each other is serious. Sara and Jared expressed that commitment at their wedding with a kintsugi unity ceremony. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of mending broken pottery using gold-dusted lacquer, intentionally showing the cracks and using them to make the piece more beautiful. For Sara and Jared, this part of their ceremony symbolized how the obstacles they’ll face will make them even stronger as a couple, as they face them together. An important reminder for us all – and a gorgeous way to bring DIY to the next level!
This colorful DIY outdoor wedding showed us that less really can be more
Sara and Jared reminded us that “simple” can still hold a ton of meaning. They focused on a few small details – the outfits, the flower crowns, the kintsugi unity ceremony – making each one stand out and really shine (literally, when there’s gold paint involved!). Congrats, Sara and Jared! May your life together be as colorful as you are!
