As one of Chanel’s muses, it comes as no surprise that Blackpink’s Jennie Kim looked ethereal walking down the 2023 Met Gala white carpet.
This year’s theme honored the late Karl Lagerfeld, who served as Chanel’s creative director for over three decades. The singer wore one of the fashion house’s looks from the ‘90s: a white mini-dress with a camellia (Chanel’s signature flower) at the center of its black belt. She wore the dress with black accessories including gloves, a choker, stockings, and heels. Jennie embodied the theme — totally living up to her nickname of “Human Chanel” — for her Met Gala debut.
But while admiring her vintage look, you might have missed a few subtle, but statement-making details of her makeup. First, the small, double braids that she wore as a headband. Because of how dark (and glossy) Jennie’s hair is, it’s easy to miss the tiny braids. Upon closer inspection, though, you’ll see they’re securing her hair back as they taper into yet another white camellia tucked behind her ear.
Second, her shimmery, lavender eye shadow, which she paired with rosy blush and lipstick. The colors appear to be dusted on, adding a subtle wash of color to an otherwise monochrome look. Below, a closer look at Jennie’s hair and makeup. It was certainly a memorable (first) first Monday in May for her fans.
