It’s been a long time coming but I finally have my hands on the much-lusted-after Dyson Airwrap Multi-styler Complete and I’m so excited to share with you my thoughts. I have been using this for around 3 weeks and have tried out all the different functions and attachments and styled my hair in a few different ways. I feel like am a dab hand and know my way around the Dyson Airwrap now so here is my full review, how-to-use, tips and tricks – LET’S GO!
Let’s quickly chat about my hair history and experience : I have tried SO many different hair stylers, dryers, straighteners (even crimpers!) over the years because I used to do professional hair styling alongside my makeup work so I think I have a little bit of knowledge in hair styling tools and what is good. It can be overwhelming if you are looking for a new hair styler/tool as there is a lot of hard-hitters in the hair styling sector at the moment, with more and more launching every month – so I hope this review on the Dyson Airwrap will help you make a balanced decision if this is the hair styling tool for you.
The Dyson Airwrap Multi-styler Complete.
Dyson is renowned as one of the most premium brands of hair appliances and the reviews tend to speak for themselves. The Dyson Airwrap has been created as a multi-hair- styler ; to give your hair various finishes and styles. You can curl, shape and smooth flyaways – all without extreme heat and less damage to the hair. It uses its unique Coanda technology that has never-been-seen-before and it truly is a pioneer in the hairstyling industry. It been making waves since they first launched *that* hairdryer and with good reason! These hair styling products really are game-changers.
The Dyson Airwrap is less damaging on the hair than other heat staying tools. This is because the clever COANDA technology means that it measures airflow temperature constantly to control the heat and keep it below 150 degrees.
Old vs New Dyson Airwrap.
I’m just touching on this as I know lots of people want to know what the difference is between the original Dyson Airwrap set that launched in 2018 and the newer / updated Dyson Airwrap set that launched in 2022. Just as an FYI the one I have is the updated one.
The main differences are : the airflow has increased from 13 to 13.5 litres per second for more user efficacy. There are also slightly fewer attachments as they have updated the technology on the barrels so each one can curl both ways as opposed to needing x 4 , you just need x 2 and these are just different sizes. There is also now just 3 heat settings instead of 4 AND a cold shot button has been added which works to fix styles. So all-in-all the Dyson Airwrap has simply been improved and refined.

So the Dyson Airwrap Multi-styler Complete comes in a very luxe and gorgeous storage box, which is certainly needed with all of the accessories. The case both stores your airwrap neatly and safely and it also doubles up as a mat where you can place your styler whilst using.

Dyson Airwrap attachments and what they do.
There are 6 attachments that come with the Dyson Airwrap and it can initially seem a little confusing as we are used to maybe 1-2 attachments with an air styler but let’s break them all down and what each one is used for :
40mm Airwrap & 30mm Airwrap Barrels – These are some of my most-used and favourite attachments to get lovely smooth curls. They self-wrap the hair around the attachment for quickness and ease and give a nice gentle curl. The two sizes can be switched up if you want a slightly bigger or smaller curl. The Airwrap originally came with x 4 curling attachments but this updated Dyson Airwrap has reduced it to 2 and these now give you curls each way and are easier to use.
Firm smoothing brush – This creates a straighter style with minimal frizz and flyaways.
Soft smoothing brush – This creates a smooth, blow-dry type finish.
Coanda smoothing dryer – dries hair, smooths flyaways, can be used to rough-dry hair also before styling
Round volumising brush – Gives body and shape to fine and flat hair.
Here is photo’s of the different attachments so you can also see how they look. The ones I use the most are the airwrap barrels and probably the volumising brush. I don’t use the smoothing brushes so much at the moment so I need to work these out a little more and what they do for my hair.
How to use the Dyson Airwrap + How to prep hair before styling.
It‘s best used on hair that is freshly washed and is 80% dry. If you want to rough dry your hair you can use the Coanda Smoothing Dryer attachment to do this before you go in to the styling. I then use a good heat protection spray and then select my attachments/s for styling. You can use more than one for sure, depending on the style you want to achieve. It takes a bit of experimenting to see what ones work for you and what they do for your hair. I would definitely suggest on your first-use just to have playtime with it so you get to know it and try out all the attachments.
1.) Wash and condition hair
2.) Allow it to air-dry or rough dry it to 80% dry
3.) Select your styling attachments you want to use (I usually use 2-3)
4.) Spritz hair with heat protection spray
5.) Use the Dyson Airwrap to style the hair
6.) Finish with styling creams / sprays if your choice to keep the style in your hair.
If you want to re-style your hair once it’s dry (in between washes) then you can lightly dampen your hair and re-style it without washing if you wish.
My Review of the Dyson Airwrap Multi-styler Complete.
My hair type : Fine, damaged, frizzy and bleached. Medium-length.
From lots of reviews I have read and watched since the Dyson Airwrap first launched, a lot of people say the same thing : it takes a while to get used to it. I think I will agree with this, but it just took a bit of practice, not a huge amount and I put this down to the Airwrap simply being like nothing else on the market it terms of hair styling appliances, it really is in a different league and honestly….did not take long to wrap (pun intended) my head around it and how to make it work for me and give me the hairstyles I wanted.
You can get multiple hairstyles from the Dyson Airwrap which is why you have multiple attachments (6, in fact) which makes it super versatile and kind of gives you a few different hair stylers in one. You can also rough dry the hair with it prior to styling. The only style you can;t really achieve is super straight and sleek aka ironed hair. You can smooth and sleek and definitely straighten it but it will give you a little kick and volume one way or another. If you want mirror-like straight, straight hair then you will still need hair straighteners.
I think my hair type is probable quite ideal for the Dyson airwrap as it just beyond shoulder-length, fine and frizzy. It thrives with a bit of heat and styling and I can get nice smooth looks and curls hold well as I do have a natural curl in my hair. Hence why I really like the styler. I think it’s definitely best for shorter – medium-length hair as opposed to very long and/or very thick.
My favourite styler / attachment.
I do pick up a few and get on well with most of these attachments. The one I seem to be using the most is the 40mm air wrap barrel which gives me a nice soft wavy curl. These curling barrels are super clever and kind of suck your hair around the wrap and it’s all a bit magical. I just find tboth the 40mm and 30mm easy to use and give me lovely soft curls. I have used both of these attachments to give me the finished look on this review FYI.
Is the Dyson Airwrap Worth the money?!
YES. I think it’s a really unique hair styler and you really won’t find anything else like it on the market. It’s expensive but I honestly think that it is worth it. It is a perfect item to put on that Christmas / Birthday wish list, look out for any Black Friday deals etc etc. It’s something that will last you ages and if you do use heat styling a lot on your hair, you know how much use you will get out of it!
It feels very luxurious and expensive (as it should) in the presentation box, and also it comes with all the different attachments, this factors into the cost.

Why is the Dyson Airwrap so expensive?!
The technology that has gone into the item and the quality of it! It’s innovative and never-been-done-before. Other brands are already trying to imitate what Dyson have done with this but so far I have not seen anything as good as this. Dyson is a high quality brand and the prices will always reflect this.
Is the Dyson Airwrap heavy?
It’s a very BIG looking hair styler, however it’s not too heavy and I don’t have any problems using it or the weight of it personally.
Is the Dyson Airwrap quick to style the hair?
Yes. As you are using it on 80% dry hair, it really doesn’t take long at all to both finish drying and styling the hair. As mentioned above I have fine, shoulder-length hair and it takes me around 20 minutes to style my hair completely with the Dyson Airwrap.
How to clean the Dyson Airwrap.
To keep it running at maximum efficiency, Dyson suggests you clean your styler at least once a month. Here’s how: unplug the unit, slide the circular filter brush that comes with the product onto the filter cage located at the bottom of the wand, then twist the brush in a back-and-forth motion to remove any hair or dust particles caught in the cage. Pinch the dot on the filter cage, and pull it down off the wand. Rinse under a stream of warm water, tap, and let air dry. Reassemble by sliding the filter cage back onto the unit until it snaps into place.

The burning question! Dyson Airwraps are expensive so I know lots of people will be interested in trying to score a discount or snagging one in the sale. All I will say is that they aren’t on sale *that* often from what I have seen but do keep your eye out around Black Friday as this is when you may get a little bit of a discount.
