Below is a sneak peek at some of the important questions!

1. Are you available on our date and legally able to perform a marriage in our wedding location?

One of the first questions to ask a wedding officiant is if they are available on your date and legally able to perform a marriage in your wedding location. This question is important because it ensures that the person you hire can actually do the job and won’t have any legal issues when it comes time for your ceremony.

Jane is legally able to officiate all weddings. “I have done weddings all over the United States, Russia and all over the state of Colorado. However, I do have an additional travel fee” says Jane.

2. Can you perform a wedding that incorporates our religions/cultures?

It’s also important to ask about their experience and what type of ceremonies they specialize in. Some officiants may only be comfortable with religious ceremonies while others may be more open to non-traditional weddings. Knowing this information ahead of time can help you decide if this particular officiant is right for you. Lucky for you, Jane is able to perform religious, non-denominational, interfaith, spiritual and all other requests.

3. Do you have a script or do you personalize the wedding ceremony for each couple?

You should always inquire about a wedding officiant’s fees and services offered. Some officiants may offer additional services such as premarital counseling or relationship coaching which could be beneficial for couples looking for extra guidance before tying the knot. Additionally, some officiants may be willing to customize their services based on your needs so it’s worth asking if that’s an option as well.

“I never work from a script. All of my weddings are unique, fun and unforgettable. I work with my clients to customize their ceremonies. A ceremony should be a unique reflection of their love story and journey as a couple” says Jane.

4. How will you create the ceremony and how much input will we have?

With the right guidance and preparation, you can create a beautiful and meaningful ceremony that reflects your unique relationship. It’s important to ask yourself how much input you want to have in creating the ceremony. Do you want to write your own vows? Are there any special readings or rituals that are meaningful to you? Asking these questions will help you create a ceremony that is truly special and memorable for both of you.

Jane says, “I meet my couples and I ask them questions to form the vision of their ceremony. Then I give them homework with questions about their journey to marriage and create their ceremony. They are not allowed to share their answers until after the ceremony. My couples love this! We talk about rituals as well. Do they want their ceremony to have elements of religion or spiritual aspects or both, as well as a unity ceremony.”

5. Where can I see reviews and photos?

Finally, don’t forget to ask about references or reviews from past clients! This can give you an idea of what other couples thought of their experience with this particular officiant and help you make an informed decision when selecting someone to marry you.
