As we head into sweater weather, you’re probably thinking about cuddling up and heading to the pumpkin patch. Alternatively, if you live in Florida, fall is the same as every other season, and you’re in shorts year-round. Wherever you are, and no matter the weather, you at least want to get into the spirit of the season and enjoy whatever fall looks like in your section of the country. Here are some of the best ways to do that!
Why Have a Date Night?
Before diving into fall date night ideas, what’s the importance of having date night? Well, first of all, it’s fun! At least, it should be. Having a date night, even sporadically, is excellent for your marriage and mental health. You’ll find that the two of you have more time to connect that way, and, as a result, you can keep your marriage strong. Just because you’ve already got that gorgeous wedding ring set doesn’t mean you must stop going on dates! It does, however, mean you should stop going on dates with other people. Hopefully, that was obvious. Seriously, though, it can be tough to plan out time for dates. Life pressures, your children’s needs, your job, whatever it is, can get in the way and make you want to push it another week. And then another week. Once you go out, you’ll realize just how much you needed that break!
How to Prepare a Successful Fall Date Night
Try Your Best to Impress
Do you remember when you were first dating? You tried to look your best at all times, you wanted to find the most exciting places to go, and you got creative. After a while, some of that falls by the wayside. In a certain way, that’s good. You got more comfortable with each other, and you weren’t as nervous about looking your best. That isn’t bad at all. However, there’s a fine line between comfort and no longer trying. You don’t have to make some grand romantic gesture and get dressed up to the nines, though you’re more than welcome to. The extra effort alone is a good gesture showing you appreciate each other’s time.
Bring Something
You don’t have to present a new ring, though you’re more than welcome to give that men’s wedding ring an upgrade! Flowers, small jewelry, a handwritten note. Whatever that something is, bring it! You know best what’s going to work, so get to it!
Plan Ahead
You don’t have to put in all the effort you did when you were first dating to plan the perfect evening. Of course, you can do that if you like. However, all you need to do here is make a deliberate plan for something you know you’ll enjoy doing. If you’ve made concrete decisions, you’re good to go.
Fall Date Night Ideas for Married Couples
Frolick in a Pumpkin Patch
This is the quintessential fall activity, perfect for a date night. Stroll through the pumpkin patch in your flannels and enjoy the crisp air. There’s usually hot apple cider and other seasonal goodies while you’re there to keep you warm. Extra points if you pick a pumpkin or two to carve at home. Date night part 2 can be a pumpkin-carving competition!
See a Scary Movie
There’s just something fun about being scared, and there’s nothing quite like Halloween time to get you into the headspace for a spooky movie marathon. Of course, if you aren’t into horror, plenty of classic fall movies are a bit tamer than going through the whole Nightmare on Elm Street catalog.
Go to the Fair (or Any Fall Festival)
There’s never a wrong time to go to the fair. Of course, if you don’t have fairgrounds nearby, you can always see what other festivals are going on. Often, you can find vendors gathered at a farmers market or downtown event, even if there’s no proper fair.
Go for a Walk Among the Trees
It’s free, it’s relaxing, it’s good for you. What’s not to love? This is especially great if you live in an area of the country that gets excellent fall colors. Extra points if you bring a picnic with you.
Oktoberfest, anyone?
Okay, we know that authentic German Oktoberfest is technically in September and ends early October. However, plenty of seasonal beers and activities remain to enjoy throughout October, so don’t let that stop you!
Head Out into Nature
Maybe date night is a little more like date overnight. Go for a camping trip! A quick overnighter at a local state park is all you need to set up a tent, build a fire, and roast s’mores.
Find Your Way Out of a Corn Maze
Another quintessential fall activity to close out this list. Something about the corn maze makes you feel like a kid again, so lean into that and have a great time! You can hit all the fall highlights in one place if you find a pumpkin patch with a corn maze. That matters as long as you decide on a plan and spend intentional time together. The changing leaves sure don’t hurt, though! Enjoy the season, and have a great date night!
