10 Best Costume Accessories, Ranked

10 Best Costume Accessories, Ranked

Rescuing Ashley is Leon’s primary mission, but with the help of the Resident Evil 4 remake’s best accessories, he can ensure that he does so in unparalleled style. These collectible costume pieces, which can be unlocked by completing various challenges, allow players to express their style as they traverse the otherwise grim landscapes of the rural village. Some provide Leon with a significant upper hand in combat, whereas others are worth it simply for the looks. Whether they seek function or fashion, players will benefit from spending their Challenge Points on the best accessories in the RE4 remake.

Accessories aren’t the only ways in which players can flaunt their personal taste in-game. Just as in the original 2005 title, both main characters come equipped with a few extra outfits in their wardrobe, ranging from realistic to absolutely ridiculous. However, while all the best alternate costumes for Leon and Ashley are purely cosmetic (except for one), players can enjoy a greater range of benefits with the Resident Evil 4 remake’s best accessories, which turn the game from a grueling, Plaga-infested nightmare to a fashion show in the Spanish countryside – some even granting Leon game-changing tactical advantages.

10 Surgical Mask

Although COVID-19 isn’t a concern in the Resident Evil universe, the game’s characters are instead faced with an infestation of Las Plagas that are highly invasive and gruesome. Leon in particular will be subjected to some rather close encounters with infected Ganados, villains like Saddler, and other biological horrors. As such, it realistically would not be a bad idea for him to slip into the Surgical Mask.

If not from the hostile parasites, it might at least protect him what is sure to be a foul stench encompassing the run down, corpse-filled village. The Surgical Mask can be unlocked for 1,500 CP after beating the main story on Hardcore mode or higher.

9 Flight Cap

The setting of the Resident Evil 4 remake is oftentimes cold and rainy, and even though Leon has a fluffy head of hair on his shoulders, it wouldn’t hurt to keep warm in the Flight Cap. This hat is not only practical, but also stylish, as it is visually a perfect match to the protagonist’s leather, fur-lined jacket.

Whether the player chooses to equip Leon’s Jacket costume or not, the Flight Cap is one of the best accessories in the RE4 remake when it comes to coziness and comfort. It can be unlocked for 1,000 CP after finishing the game’s main story on Standard mode or higher.

8 Sunglasses (Frameless)

During the Resident Evil 4 remake’s ending, players will get a brief look at the genius, evil, yet undeniably stylish Albert Wesker, who sports a pair of shades quite similar to the game’s Frameless Sunglasses. Even if players aren’t trying to look like the Umbrella mastermind, this accessory is a must-have for a stereotypical cool guy like Leon.

He’ll be spending more time in the dark than in the light, but it’s well worth the sacrifice in vision to attain peak fashion. The Frameless Sunglasses can be unlocked for 1,000 CP after completing the game’s main story on any difficulty.

7 Skull Mask

Las Plagas are visually repulsive creatures, whereas Leon makes the style of death and decomposition look surprisingly good by wearing the Skull Mask. It’s unclear what (or who) this Resident Evil 4 remake accessory is derived from, but it doesn’t entirely matter, as the sharp fangs and angular, bony jaw fit the protagonist like a glass slipper.

With this mask equipped, even villains like Méndez or Saddler might think twice before attempting to approach Leon and Ashley. The Skull Mask can be unlocked for 1,000 CP after beating the main story on any difficulty.

6 Face Guard

Being sent on orders of the US President himself, it’s unsurprising that Leon enters the field well-equipped with tactical gear, only becoming increasingly prepared when purchasing the RE4 remake’s best exclusive upgrades, but he can take it a step further by donning the Face Guard. As its name would imply, this mask completely conceals Leon’s face, shielding it from harm.

Not only does it provide Leon with anonymity that would make sense for a secret agent, but it also grants him a sleek, militaristic style incomparable to any of the other accessories in the Resident Evil 4 remake. The Face Guard can be unlocked with 1,000 CP after finishing the main story on any difficulty.

5 Deer Antlers

Players assume the role of the predator as they hack their way through endless waves of Ganados and Los Iluminados, but they may counterintuitively benefit from becoming the prey with the Deer Antlers. This accessory sprouts two long antlers from Leon’s head, which are noticeable from afar, but unexpectedly still provide him with the upper hand in combat.

When using the Deer Antlers, he’ll get to enjoy an increase in knife damage, maximizing his lethality with his trusty Combat Knife and other blade weapons. This item can be unlocked for 2,000 CP after earning the S+ rank on Standard difficulty.

4 Wolf Tail

After what happened with the dog in the RE4 remake, players may be feeling particularly inclined to show off their love for canines with the Wolf Tail. While Leon does look a touch silly with a long, furry tail attached to his bottom, it’s still one of the best accessories in the Resident Evil 4 remake thanks to its perks.

When sporting the Wolf Tail, Leon will see an increase in melee damage, including suplex slams and roundhouse kicks; these moves can oftentimes be a lifesaver on their own, but even more so with this accessory equipped. It can be unlocked for 2,000 CP upon finishing the game with an S+ rank in the Assisted mode.

3 Gas Mask

Just like the Surgical Mask, the Gas Mask would be the logical choice of gear for anyone not looking to inhale the fumes of the Las Plagas-infested villagers and the many cadavers that Leon leaves in his wake. Not only is it practical, but it’s also one of the more intimidating accessories in the game, as it portrays a Leon that’s ready to engage any sort of warfare, whether it be biological or chemical.

Plus, the Gas Mask also bestows players with the option of using aim assist in any game mode, making some of the hardest sections feel like a casual trip to the shooting range in the RE4 remake. It can be unlocked by finishing the main story on Professional mode.

2 Chicken Hat

Finding a Gold Chicken Egg can be a tricky task, and sadly, the Chicken Hat may not help with this particular quest – but it will make the rest of the game’s events an absolute breeze. This accessory, if a bit eccentric-looking, will greatly decrease the amount of damage Leon takes from all sources.

Needless to say, this is massive boost to survivability can take some serious weight off players’ shoulders. The Chicken Hat can be unlocked for 2,500 CP after completing the game with an S+ rank on Hardcore mode.

1 Cat Ears

The best accessory in the RE4 remake is the Cat Ears. Watching Leon brutally slay his enemies wearing a pair of adorable brown cat ears is a joy in itself, but even players who don’t consider themselves a cat person may find themselves longing for this item’s perks.

With the Cat Ears equipped, Leon will have the absolute luxury of infinite ammo for every weapon except for RE4‘s Rocket Launcher. After spending hours scrounging for resources to craft ammunition, being able to unleash an endless storm of bullets into Las Plagas-infected villagers is surely nothing short of satisfying, making the Cat Ears the best accessory in the Resident Evil 4 remake. They can be unlocked for 3,000 CP upon beating the game with an S+ rank on Professional difficulty.
