The fall season can quickly fly by, enjoying them to their fullest is a must! There are so many fun activities to try during the fall months that include everything from baking, to outdoor activities, and even just embracing the season in your own home and routine.
Fall is truly one of the best seasons for so many reasons. From the wonderful crisp air, gorgeous leaves changing colors, and all the delicious baked goods that you can make, there are endless ideas on how to enjoy fall right now.
But this season tends to fly right by us. With the holidays around the corner, I feel like many of us skip over embracing the season. And instead, let’s try some easy ways to slow down life a little and enjoy what’s in front of us. Here are a few ways you can enjoy fall this year with friends and family.
How To Enjoy Fall
Apple Picking With Friends or Family
Visit an apple orchard with friends and family to pick fresh apples and have a day outside. These are some of my most fond memories as a little kid.
Make An Apple Pie
What is fall without apple pie? I perfected my recipe recently and love a good crumble topping. I loosely use this recipe and add 50% more crumble.
Visit A Pumpkin Patch
Grab some pumpkins to decorate your front porch with, or carve some pumpkins for Halloween. I love when a pumpkin patch has all the different kinds of pumpkins to choose from. Cinderella pumpkins, different colors, shapes and sizes.
Roast Pumpkin Seeds
After you carve your pumpkins, be sure to set aside those pumpkin seeds so you can roast them. They make a great snack. Here are a few ways to spice them up.
Have A Fall Dessert Potluck With Friends
If you don’t want to do all the baking, ask your friends to come over with their favorite dessert. Make a whole night out of it! Try different recipes, have some fall-inspired cocktails, and spend some time with your friends.
Host A Movie Night With Apple Cider
Movie night is always a fun thing to do when there’s a chill in the air. Grab a good movie and make some apple cider (feel free to spike it as I do) for a cozy night in.
Upgrade Your Scented Candles To Fall Scents
What is it about lighting a candle after tidying up your home that just feels so satisfying? Make it a fall-scented candle like this cider and cinnamon one!
Decorate Your Home For Fall
Add some autumn into your home with some fall decor. Fall florals, decorative pumpkins, or just swapping your pillows and blankets for warmer and earthier tones.
Visit Your Local Farmer’s Market And Try Some Fall Produce
Nothing like a crisp fall morning to go for a walk at the farmer’s market. Try out some fall produce like beets, pears or winter squashes.
Go On A Nature Walk Or Hike To Take In The Changing Leaves
Walks and hikes this time of year are just stunning. With all the leaves changing, and the perfect fall weather, it makes for a great way to spend a few hours outdoors taking in the fall foliage and getting in a little movement.
Make A Big Pot Of Chili
Fall equals chili, period. I love a big batch of chili to have in the fridge to grab throughout the week. This year, I’m going to try my hand at a white chicken chili. Get my classic chili recipe here.
Try Your Hand At Cider Donuts
Okay, you don’t HAVE to try making them, but why not? These are a staple for fall sweets. Making them at home is not super hard and can be a fun afternoon activity. Try this baked cider donut recipe here.
Take A Trip To Go Leaf Peeping
Maybe it’s a trip to nearby mountains, or just a pretty street nearby, but leaf peeping is a must! You can even go to a quintessential fall destination like Vermont, or even Asheville for epic leaf colors!
Make Mulled Wine
A delicious and easy thing to make that warms you up on the inside is mulled wine. And it’ll make your house smell amazing.
If you’ve never had it, it’s a hot drink of red wine that’s infused with spices and citrus usually, and sometimes added brandy or even cider. It’s so delicious and such a nice treat! I’m going to try this recipe this fall.
Carve Pumpkins
Every Halloween we had a family tradition of pumpkin carving for the holiday. It always made a big mess but it was worth it! Then you can decorate your front porch with them to get into the spirit.
Go For Morning Walks
Take advantage of the cooler temps and take yourself on some morning walks. Getting outside is always good for your mental health and moving your body is a plus! Take in the fall colored leaves, the decorated front porches and the gorgeous weather.
Have A Spooky Scary Movie Night
With Halloween around the corner, host a spooky scary movie night with friends. Whip out the pumpkin seeds, mulled wine and popcorn for a night in with friends to watch a few scary movies!
Make Something With Butternut Squash
A classic vegetable for the fall season is butternut squash. You can do so much with it too. From roasting it to toss into salads, to butternut squash soup. Try your hand at a new recipe this season with this classic ingredient.
Jump In A Pile Of Leaves
Just like when we were kids, jumping into a pile of leaves is truly one of the best things ever. Something so fun and innocent about it. The smell of the crunchy leaves on a crisp fall day brings me back to my childhood in Montreal. So yes, be a kid for just a second, and after you rake all the leaves to clean up your yard, jump into them!
Plant Fall Flowers
Don’t forget about your yard just because it’s fall and cooler weather. So swap out those spring and summer flowers and do a little gardening. Here’s a great list of plants and flowers to consider!
Decorate Your Front Porch For Fall
There is nothing better than a front porch decked out for fall. I love all the layered pumpkins, piles of mums, and the like. It transforms your space and makes it so festive. You’ll stand out in the neighborhood for sure!
Fall-ify Your Wardrobe
It’s time to swap your closet for all the fall things. Fall sweaters, fall colors, textures and more. Embrace the new season and let go of those summer pieces. You can explore all my fall outfits here to get inspired.
Make Homemade Pumpkin Spice Lattes
Or just get a classic PSL at Starbucks if you want, but making it at home is sort of fun! I have a recipe here that you can try to whip up at home.
It’s nice because it’s so much cheaper than paying $6 for a latte at a coffee shop. You can also spike these for a fun brunch with friends!
Attend A Harvest Festival
So many wonderful harvest festivals you can attend from corn mazes to apple orchards and more. These are a fun way to get out of the house and enjoy some time with loved ones.
What’s on your fall bucket list?
